Topic: wiper tower seals

what side of the cowl does the felt seal go on? inside the car or outside? and is there another one for the reverse side?

I would think the felt on the inside, and rubber on the outside so it seals and does not retain water under the chrome wiper towers,
I might be wrong, but its my 3 cents worth 37RAGTOPMAN

If you have a green parts book, page 637 shows a full diagram of a 46 wiper. it shows the 17541 going on first and then the 17515. If you don't have a green book, you can get reprints.

would you be able to post a pic of how these parts are put in place?

TomO    -- 03-23-2011 @ 6:01 PM
The Green book shows the same drawing that I posted to one of your other questions.

I just reread your post. On the 46 there is no felt pad or rubber pad for the pivot tower.

To install the wiper tower, insert the tower through the cowl, place the paper gasket P/N 11A-17541 over the tower, then place the chrome spacer, P/N 11A-17515 and finally the chrome nut P/N 355964. The driver goes on after that.

what if i use rubber seals in place of paper any trouble?

If you are not going to show the car, you can do whatever you want.

46fordnut    -- 03-25-2011 @ 5:29 AM
its a long way from being a show car...but it sure is fun to drive it

42Ford is right and so are you.

Do it any way that makes you happy. It is your car, and you have to be satisfied with it. I and others on this forum, usually state what we think was done originally. If you want to do something different, and it will work, go for it.

I always like to see the photos of your car, because it still looks original.

NEVER been restored! so it would be as such original. i bought it to keep it out of the scr*p yard.i'm only the 3rd owner. if you wish i will take some other shots and post them. i like to try not to change the car to much you can only have it original ONCE. p.s do these lights look right for 6 volt low beam? everything on the car is still like it was in 1946. only change is the glass pak muffler.

Its a might dark. Is it dark blue or black?

46fordnut    -- 03-26-2011 @ 3:43 PM
black, it was just for headlight test. have other pics that are better.

It looks like the passenger side light has a poor connection, either in the voltage or ground side as it is much dimmer than the drivers side.

Hook up your volt meter with common lead on the NEG post of the battery and probe the harness connections wit the POS lead of the meter with the lights on. Any reading above 1/2 volt means there is a high resistance connection before the probe point.

Reverse the meter leads and check the ground connection the same way.
