i have a 1934 ford with the dual gas/water temp gauge. I sent gauge off to be refurbished but they cant find the colored fluid for the temperature side. (its not the same as the gas) I want to keep the dash stock looking, but want to know my engine temp. What can i do? or what have others on here done to resolve this problem? I even thought put the gauge in with only the gas side working and make the temp side just read normal operation temp with the gas fluid coloring and hide a temp gauge somewhere. But still for the engine to also look stock. Please help with ANY suggestions or Solutions?????

I can't help you with the fluid for your Temp gauge, but am jealous of the warm weather you 1934 sedan is enjoying. I like the pictures. Tom

Natesbpd: I like your pictures!! When I repaired the hydrostatic fuel gauge about 10 years ago on my 35, I bought the red fluid from C & G Ford Parts. I think they still sell it. Can't remember the real name of the liquid, but it is the only fluid that will work. Your fuel gauge has three basic parts--the air chamber located in the tank, the small copper air line, which goes from the tank to the head unit-gauge. GM posted here all the info you need to get your gauge working. If you can't fine his information in the archives, maybe he will see your post & email the info. natesbpd: I didn't read your question very well. I guess since most seem to have more trouble with the gas gauge & I wanted to get you an answer I didn't take time to read your question. Sorry. I am not sure about the red fluid in the temp. gauge. Mine works but has always read a lot hotter the the engine temp. I have dual temp.aftermarket gauges mounted to the bottom of the dash on my cars as I want to know the temp. of each side of the engine, not just a reading from one side. I had planned to remove them for Concourse judging,but since I drive to most meets I just leave them on and have not lost enough points to hurt me. I do understand that you want your original temp. gauge to work and so would I. One thing you might try is calling Baxter Ford Parts in Kansas. Don't have their number,as I,m out of town for a couple of days, but Baxter always has ads in Hemmings. They usually have Nos & rebuilt gauges in stock and would probably tell you what kind of fluid to use in your temp. gauge. Someone on here will have their Phone #, if you don't have a Hemmings. Nate, The temp sending unit on my '35 would probably be very similar. Temp is with the Amp gauge in a dual dash instrument. Mine has been on the car so long the fluid is clear and I have to look careful to see where it is. I believe they are sealed and not like the gas gauge. I would like to get mine red again too. MAC's has the '35-'36 temp which is one part. Inserts into the left front water pump housing and the small tubing goes to the gauge on the dash. It lists for $125. You might be able to slide the "gage" tube part into the '34 instrument, I don't know. Let us know how it works out for you. Ken in Texas
