I have 40 Ford windup clock in glove box door - made by New Haven Clock Company with "Ford" script logo. Clock runs but stops after a minute or so. Any advice regarding source for reliable repair of clock works. Don't need full restoration of case, etc.

40 guy, any clock repair shop can fix your clock. It has the same inner
workings as the old "dollar" watches of the day, which are still common
and inexpensive. I'm not sure of the other glovebox clocks that were
available, but for your New Haven, I am sure.

This will send "real" clock guys screaming into the night, but I have
"fixed" several Ford clocks ('39, '40, and '50) by just cleaning and
oiling them. Lately, I have been using some high powered ammonia
based clock cleaner that was given to me by a clock guy, but before
that I was using spray can brake cleaner. I take the works out of the
case and remove the hands and face to avoid damaging them.
Removing the hands is the hardest part. They just pull off, but they
are easily damaged (soaking with Liquid Wrench helps). The clocks
usually start running while I am cleaning them. Sometimes I gently
spin the escapement to get them going (might take several tries with
the clock running longer each time). After they are clean I wash off the
cleaner with dish soap and hot water and blow dry them (gently). Then
I put a small drop of oil (Mobil 1) on the face of each gear and on each
axle where it goes through the frame (no oil on the gear teeth). The
clock in my '40 has been running for several years since I did this.
Some others were all still running when I sold the cars. I did the '41
last year and it worked all through this weekend while we were on tour.

Thanks for a great solution. I'll give it a try.

40 guy, let me emphasize this point: The clockwork is much less valuable
than the clock face and hands. Take heed of what DeLuxe40 said: ..."take
the works out of the case and remove the hands and face to avoid
damaging them."

I used Radio Shack tuner cleaner with lubricant to get my clock working and it has been running for 10 years now. I do remove the battery cable when I park the car in the garage, so it does get a lot of rest.
