I pulled the fuel pump of a 59AB and noticed that the push rod had a lot of play in it back and forth.Is this normal to have this movement?How do you change the bushing if needed?

You can change the bushing. I had it done when I rebuilt my engine. I'd also (and did) replace the rod. Push the old one out and push the new one in. Richard

The fuel pump rod bushing is important to retaining oil pressure, as it extends into the camshaft oil gallery. Without taking the engine apart, the old bushing can be pulled using a tool called a "slide hammer", then the new one is put into place with the proper sized driver. The bushings, 8BA-6025, are not expensive, under $10, but can be tricky to replace without the proper tools. If your oil pressure is adequate, I wouldn't replace it.

There is a lot of play back and forth on the fuel pump push rod when measured at the top. The bushing only supports a small section of the rod at the bottom. Your play is probably normal. Tom
