After I install the pinion seal on a 51 Ford, should I wipe the rubber seal with grease or something prior to inserting the drive shaft yoke? Thanks

We usually give the seal a shot or two of silicone spray to ease the shank of the yoke thru the seal lip. Be sure that there are no burs or other problems with the yoke, or that there is no wear ring where the seal contacts it.

before you install the seal, just slide the yoke in place and try to wiggle it, see if any play in the pinion bearing,
if it has,,,, now would be the time to replace the pinion bearing, before it takes everything else out.
if no play, you should also polish the yoke shaft with very very fine emery cloth, just make sure there are no groves in the yoke shaft, were the seal rides,
my 3 cents worth,37RAGTOPMAN
