Hi Guys; I am thinking of taking my spring apart and cleaning and painting each leaf before i put the rear back in. What is the best grease to coat them with?
Thank you.

If you are going to use grease, use a marine type that will be more impervious to water.
Be certain to remove any worn spots that can be on occasion found near the ends of the leaves - caused from the upper leaf rubbing the lower one.

I agree with Mike. We have used a material called "Slip Plate", usually available at farm supply stores. It is a graphite based lube that goes on like paint, but doesn't attract road dirt like common grease. There also is available lining for springs. C&G has it in 20 foot rolls in various widths of 1 3/4, 2", and 2 1/4, about $20/roll. Teflon lining is also sold, but is pricey. Any spring lining requires modification of the spring clamps due to the increased thickness. Lining improves spring action, and eliminates the mess of grease, as it eleiminates squeaks.

Slip Plate is the same product used on the fifth wheel of truck tractors, and is also the best product to lubricate mechanical brake cables within their sheaths, as it stays put without dripping out, and doesn't freeze.
