What to look for when wipers only travel about 1/3 of full travel and stop. Have to turn off switch to return to park pos. ???? 1952 customline

If they are vacuum operated, check for vacuum leak. Check the hose and hose where it slips over the fittings. If the hose is OK, then the flapper inside may need some new grease to re-seal it. If the grease and flapper are dried out and hard, you may have to look for a replacement unit. I am sure there will be other answers, but this is a place to start.

CHECK out ALL THE RUBBER, HOSES,for cracka and looseness,any leaks will hamper the system, trace them back to the engine and make sure they are attached on the engine in the correct position,should be picking up vacuumn under the carb,throttle plate,this is were the most vaacuunm is ,a vacuumn tester would also tell you how much vacuunm is at the wiper motor, just disconnect the rubber line going to the motor and attach the guage, this will tell you right away, whats going on, at a even steady idle should be 18-21 inches, any lube for the wiper motor will also help,,, hope this helps, 37 RAGTOPMAN and KEEP on FORDIN,,,!!!

While the paddle seal may have dried out and allowed vacuum to escape, we have found that many times when the wipers stall, the rubber grommets on the linkage had turned hard from age. If the linkage doesn't move smoothly when you work the blades by hand, it is likely the motor isn't powerful enough to overcome any binding. Also, check the wiper "towers" to see that they are free. They are exposed to the weather, car washing, etc, and can get stuck.
