Topic: Rubber brake hoses

I want to replace the rubber brake hoses on my '41 Ford that go from the hard lines to the wheel cylinders. But, do I have to remove the wheel cylinders in order to attach them or can I just pull the wheels and install new hoses. Thanks.

No need to pull the wheels. Disconnect where the hard line meets the rubber line after pulling the clip that holds the rubber line. Then you can disconnect the rubber line from the wheel cylinder. Having said that, if the rubber lines need replacement I would probably want to disassemble the wheel cly to see if corrosion is present.

It is wise practice to replace all three rubber brake hoses when servicing the system. Age and ozone can cause them to deteriorate. Good quality new hoses are less the $20 apiece. If a hose fails in the old single system, all braking will be lost with no warning, so replacement is cheap insurance against damage and injury.
