Topic: Tires for '41 Ford

I have a 1941 Super Deluxe Sedan Coupe and was wondering what size radial tires I can use on my car. It presently has 600x16 bias ply tires but would like to go to a wider tire if I can and radial as well. I would probably still use inner tubes as I don't know if the original rims would seal the radials. Thanks.

I believe the size that everyone is using is 205 x 75R - 16. I wouldn't go any larger as I believe that your rims are 4 1/2" wide. Some of my friends run tubes and some don't. On my 50 Fords I am using a 205 x 75R -15 and do not use tubes.

Your wheels are riveted together. You may or may not get by without tubes. You might consider sealing the the center of the rim(where the rivets are located) with some paint like POR 15. This will probably keep any potential leak from occurring around the rivets.

If you do decide to use tubes, be sure to install a set of "rim strips". These are wide rubber bands that snap into the center of the rim to cover the joints, spoke ends, ete. Otherwise, it is likely that the tubes will chafe and cause leaks.
