Topic: How to modify 35 frame for newer steering plate

How well does a steering mount plate from a newer ford fit in a 35 car. I would like to update the steering box in my 35 and would like to know how much work is involved. I have a plate out of a 1940 ford and steering box but it’s hard to tell if it will fit. I know I will have to drill out the rivets that holds the old plate in but will the new plate fit in without drilling new holes. And will there be any other modifications required for the new steering box, like enlarging the hole in the flooring board, etc. thanks

The plate should bolt in using the existing rivet holes. You will have to move the lock collar on the shaft to match the lock mechanism on your steering column. The collar is held on with set screws so it is easy to move. Be sure to replace the rubber bushing in the top of your column tube at the same time. There is a retrofit bearing sold by the V-8 parts vendors or sold on e-bay that is a vast improvement over the rubber bushing.
