This may not be the forum for this question but here goes. Does anybody know how to talk to a real person at ebay. They may give you a phone number but you never get through. I need to stop using them anyway. They now charge 12% of the sale price, plus the listing fees and paypal fees. I think they are going out of business.

I feel qualified to answer this question. I have been selling on eBay (and buying) for over 10 years. eBay has never been very good with customer service. The past two years or so they have gone from poor to abysmal. Definitely not seller 'friendly' whatsoever. They are very good at collecting fees though. getting to speak with someone? HA! Good luck with that. Next to impossible.

I too am a long time seller and buyer through e-Bay and my experience has been positive. I have found that, as you say, it is difficult to actually talk to a person but their on-line responses to questions has been excellent. Their fees may be high but they are the #1 way to find and sell hard to locate items. The fees are just the price of admission. Some folks have had problems with purchasing on e-Bay but the problems are with the seller not the venue. As always buyers need to do due diligence. I do not believe that e-Bay is going under. Bill, I agree with you 100%. eBay will be around long after we are gone. I have had only a couple of problems on eBay. One was with a seller and a few with buyers that don't seem feel the need to actually pay. Other than that eBay has been a blessing for us old car guys. a LOT of parts not otherwise available have come to market. yes prices may have gone up because of the worldwide exposure but that's simply supply and demand.

The last two times I have tried to contact e-bay, I have had a hard time just figuring out how to do it. And they never responded. That's kind of soured me on e-bay. Richard

I am ambivilent about eBay, but "buyer beware" has always been a part of parts searches. For many years, Hemmings was a good source, but the entries were made at least a month before publication, and were almost always gone before they appeared. Now, they are online, but still seem to have those problems. The main difficulty with eBay is that the descriptions of the items always appear to be inaccurate to a degree when compared with the delivered product. Most of what we bid on and won was a disappointment when in hand. With any such source "caveat emptor" is the rule, and I doubt that will change. As a middleman, the operators of the services disclaim responsibility, in any case.

I agree with Supereal about buyer beware. I only make purchases on EBay and was doing well until a recent carburator purchase. The seller described the item just as needing a rebuild kit when in fact it was rusted so bad all the moving parts were seized. The linkage balls were no longer round and the bottom was full of pits. Poorly described initially. If the seller was truthful I wouldn't have bid on it.

CONTACTING E-BAY, call 1 877 322 9081 and follow the prompts. there is a CONTACT US on the MAIN PAGE, if you think E-BAY is expensive, try selling at a local auction house, the they get about 25% to 30% for the seller and they also charge the buyer a 10% buyers premium, I have been selling on E-BAY about 10 years.and yes I do not like the charges but have sold things for prices I would never get at the flea market, when buying ASK QUESTIONS.,if you have to call the seller, its your money. make it go a long ways. if you can not see it clearly DO NOT BUY it is my motto my 3 cents 37RAGTOPMAN FOR INSTANCE, the mirror light in the picture is a GM TRAILMASTER LIGHT,[ was a accessory 1958,1959,1960,1961] it sold for over $1,000.00 it has a mirror and on the front it has a spotlight I guess it was pretty rare,,,, This message was edited by 37RAGTOPMAN on 2-1-11 @ 2:30 PM

fees are just too high, companies with a "lock" will always raise fees to a point. As an alternative sell on this website, Fordbarn and a few others and stay off e-bay

OK, I tried the 800 number and stay on the line long enough to get a real person. My question pertained to the free insertion fee going on right now. When I list an item, a fee pops up. I told the ebay guy about it and he said they were getting complaints from other ebayers and that the fee would be refunded. I told him I’ll believe it when I see it and he assured me it would be.

For what it's worth, there is a website called DIAL A HUMAN: http://dialahuman.com/ I've never tried it but it promises details on how to reach a real HUMAN and lists many companies alphabetically with details on how to work thru the automated stuff. There is a listing there for eBay.
