Topic: headlite identification

glassmanjf    -- 01-30-2011 @ 6:48 AM
I bought a pair of headlites from a friend that are tagged ford, that nobody has been able to identify. I think that they are from a large truck. I am hoping to find replacement lenses for the marker lites and the small 'bail retainers' for the main trims. Any help would be appreciated.

These appear to be from a 40 or 41 Ford Truck.

Carpenter has about 30 NOS lenses to fit them

Yup, I agree they are '40-"41 COE lights. I have a set of them. I am not sure what is meant by "lenses." They are conventional sealed beams and as such don't have separate or replaceable lenses.

One nice thing about these lights is they can make great sealed beam replacements for '35-'36s. However, they won't beam-adjust by moving the entire headlight assembly as with '35 and '36s. The COE bolt is stationary and non-adjustable. You will need to replace the COE hold down bolt with the hold down bolt from a '35 or '36 depending on the ultimate use. If you don't do this the COE sh*lls point up too high and even with adjusting the sealed beam bulb downward the lights will still be too high. You need to swap the bolts so you can move the entire assembly.

One more thing. If you are using them in a '35 or '36 you should add a headlight relay. You really need the extra electrical punch to take advantage of the sealed beams

Hope this helps.
