Got a strange problem. I'm just about finished with the car. I purchased new universal joints from C&G, but can't make either one fit. The universal joints go in fine and I can install one C-clip in the slot, but the other C-clip won't go in the other slot because the ear of the drive shaft covers up part of the slot. The new universal joint looks the same as the old one. I then bought another universal joint at a local parts store but ran into the same exact problem. Has anyone else had this problem? Can anyone suggest a solution? Thanks. Jim Farrell

Generally, the neoprene/rubber needle bearing seals require some pressure to overcome their "relaxed" condition. Try pushing the bearing cups towards each other with a c-clamp to overcome this resilience. Don't over-do it, add just enough pressure to uncover the clip groove.

Is the outside of the Cup, you can't get clip on, flush with the outside of the ear?

measure the cross shafts against the old one , and check and see if a needle dropped out and is resting on the bottom of the cap

I already checked to confirm that one a needle bearing had not fallen into the bottom of the cup. It hadn't. Tomorrow I'll put a c-clamp on the universal and see if I can squeeze some more room to put the c-clip in. Thanks.

Jim. Did the joint go into the tran. yoke without a problem. Just one more thought. The needle could be down, in the cup you already have in.
