Topic: Rear Window Glass Replacement

Before I start the job of replacing the rear window glass on my '34 Sedan, maybe some of you can give me some tips on the procedure envolved. What am I in for with respect to the headliner? What should I be cautious of? It's the original glass and it's foggy. Is there any way to clear-up the fog without replacing the glass?

The fogging is from moisture getting between the pieces of glass that make up the "sandwich" of safety glass, and is not correctable. Usually, the seal is sold in 10 foot lengths for the older (32-36) cars. The last we bought was from Drake 800/221-3673. Part # (B-704220). The ends of the seal will have to be cemented together. I posted instructions for rear window replacement elsewhere here on the Forum, so I won't take up the space here.

On the 34 the headliner should not be an issue. It is tacked to the wood frame that surrounds the rear window. Just remove the garnish moulding and the rear glass should come out. It may be a little sticky due to the old rubber gasket sticking to the metal on the inside of the body.

to replace the roll down rear window is a big job. The glass is held in place by a metal channel, under the glass, the window regulator operates through the metal channel to raise and lower the glass. the regulator is behind wood panels and the drip tray is under the regulator, all this is covered by the headliner.

  40 Coupe

The car is a Fordor Sedan. The rear window involved is fixed - not a roll-down.
