Topic: torque on ss manifold bolts

Any recommendations for torque on S30400 bolts?
I broke 2 "repro" steel bolts while installing aluminum intake manifold (95 hp)at 15 ft-lbs torque. The bolts were from 2 different manufacturing runs
I was replacing stainless bolts marked "S30400". Published specs for aluminum manifold bolt torque is 23-28 ft-lbs.
Published torque limits for S30400 bolts is 19 ft-lbs.
Now I'm afraid to torque anything!
Note: the depth of the holes was confirmed to be deeper than the bolt and the threads were chased. Inserted bolts lubricated with anti-seize material.

using anti-seize would be the same as lubricating the threads and you will have to reduce the torque by approximately 1/3. The published spec you give seem high to me I would shoot for about 15'# so torque to 10 with the anti-sieze.

Are you sure your torque wrench is reading the torque values accurately? I had a cheap "click type" torque wrench that provided more torque than indicated which resulted in broken bolts before the torque wrench broke.
