As I recall, only the V8's were blue, with the sixes being green. I had a '46 sedan coupe with a six, and it was green. It was a "G" engine, and was noisy. I assume the "H" version was an improvement.

I seem to remember that the Ford green paint color for 46-48 6 Cyl engines was not the same as the early dark green engine color. Seems it was a lighter green. Not much help, but maybe someone who knows can jump in with the right color..Tom..

Gorden: If nobody comes up with a color of the green engine paint you need for your 6 cyl., I would suggest you Drop Rusty Davis a note. He is the clubs 42-48 Mercury adviser and will know the answer.

is there any small piece left with the original green paint? If so clean it, buff it down and take to a auto parts store and best guess it with ones on the rattle can rack for engine paint, I had a six cylinder ford engine that was painted blue (1948) from the factory, but it was an industrial engine, so who knows-basically use your best guess, if no one can come up with the "correct" color and let them prove you wrong!

Don't make this issue with the paint a big thing. Just go to any of the antique Ford parts suppliers and get a can of Ford engine green. They have it in spray cans or quart size. I have never seen or heard of a real "name" for the color. You will not find it at the local parts store and it is a unique color.

The 41 - 48 book says that the G series sixes (41 -47)were painted a light off-shade of engine green and the H series ( 47-48) sixes were blue. the years are how they are listed in the green book.
