I have purchased two sets of replacement hood springs from reilable after market suppliers for my '47 coupe deluxe and both held the hood up for a very short period of time before totally failing. I'm now back to using a dowel to keep the hood open. Any suggestions as to where to purchase a good set that will last? Thanks! Lou G

I bought a set from Drake for my '47 a couple of years ago, and they work fine. I did have to fix the pivots on the brackets, as they were loose from wear. I also bought a set of the trunk lid support arms, which are a big improvement. Now I can put away my hard hat that was required when either the hood or the trunk lid came down unexpectedly. The old springs lose tension from age, and I suspect that foreign made replacements are not tempered well, if at all.

look in the phonebook for an industrial supply house and call them, I get a lot of small/odd items from a company in Atlanta called McMaster-Carr,I do not live in Atl but call them on the phone. I am almost sure they are in a lot of big cities also, if not try the internet

Lou, The springs are usually not the cause of the hood failing to stay up. The most common cause is the pivot in the center of the arm is worn. Bob Drake reproduces the hood arm with a new spring. I do not know how they hold up, but his trunk arms have held up well on my 40. Tom
