I'm having a little trouble getting the left head off of my 36ute. The right one was fairly easy. Seems someone has glued the gasket on. I've got a good gap around the top and cowl side.letting it soak with pb plaster now. Any tricks I could try? Thanks Smiley.

Is the head aluminum or cast iron?

There was a "handy-hint" offered in the V8 Times a while back that suggested that feeding cloths-line rope in the cylinders whilst turning the engine over by hand will "jack" the heads off. I've never tried this, but I have taken stuck Edelbrock aluminum heads off by backing the head nuts off a bit, and firing the engine up, putting the transmission in high, applying the brake, and putting a load on the motor. This process should be accompanied by someone standing by with an extinguisher, but there is nothing like combustion pressure to un-seat a head gasket. Makes a terrible mess, with coolant everywhere, but it is effective.

Thanks I finally got it. One bolt had grown to the head, used a little heat from a heat gun. Looks like it's been leaking for a long time. What a mess! Lots of crud in the water jackets. I hope it cleans up without having to pull the block. Smiley
