Topic: 36 flat head

reassembling a flat head and questions already. I believe its a 36 block. The crank weighs 65 lbs and per flathead specs that is a 33-34 crank. Any problems using a 34 crank in a 36 block? The 36 cranks weighs 60 lbs per the specs. The connecting rods have the three ring pistons. (rings above the wrist pins). Should I order rod bearings with lips or no lips if the 34 crank is ok to use?? That is no.2 question so far. Thanks much for the help

The 32-36 (early) crankshaft has 2.0" mains, and is 24 15/32" long. In mid '36, it was changed to 2.40" mains and was 24.47" long. The same rod bearings (48) were used 32-38, and had the lip until the (81A) was used later in '38. In the event your crank matches your block, it will need to be checked to determine the actual size of the journals so the correct bearings can be ordered, and whether the journals are in sufficient condition to use as-is. Mixing parts is tricky, as differences are often very slight, but enough to prevent assembly.

If you have a late block, the mains are insert bearing type and the crankshaft you have is for poured babbitt type main bearings.
