I found a chart that says the factory color for my 1952 flathead in the F1 should be green and referenced Krylon #2007. But when I went to Krylon there was no #2007. Anyone out there know exactly what green I should be looking for? Thanks, Wally

Bill Hirsch has the correct color for your engine. http://www.hirschauto.com/prodinfo.asp?number=EE-QUART Krylon has changed most of their formulas in recent years and the number would change with the formula change. I thought that most of the 52 V-8's were painted orange, and the early ones were painted bronze. The only green engines in 1952 were the Mercury engines. Now I am confused. As I said the chart I found said the engine color was green and there were some traces of green on the block before I had it hot tanked. All of that was gone after hot tanking so I was looking for the proper green to paint it before I put it back into the F1. Help, what was the proper color green for a 1952 F1 Flatty? Thanks, Wally

I do not know if it is correct, but Mac's Antique Auto Parts has Mercury green listed for 1948-53 pickups. Randy

Check with the Club's Adviser for the correct color. The pickups had the 239 cu in V-8 and I doubt that Ford would have run the truck engines down a different line that the car engines. Tom

I found the chart that you referred to about engine colors. The green is the Mercury green for 1952. This is available from Bill Hirsch. I recommend buying your engine paint from him because I have had good results with his paint. Tom

Krylon was obtained by Sherwin Williams some time ago. If you have prolems with cross reference, they should be able to fix it. The correct engine color is dependent on whether it is a six or eight. Some of the V8 48-53 pickups had dark red engines, a change from the usual earlier blue. Most of the 59A "genuine Ford rebuilt engines" came to us painted blue, while the later 8BA type were either bronze or orange. Very few trucks can be found with original engines because most were worked until they were junked. As with so many Fords, "correct" is not always a straight answer.

I wonder if some of the confusion is due to the 2 different engines available. The F7 and F8 did have their engines painted green. The pickups were not considered trucks, they were commercial vehicles. I always assumed the reason Ford changed to blue for the 239 cu in engine was to eliminate confusion on the assembly line and the different colors for different engines was continued for this reason. The line did not have to read the tag to determine if the correct engine was going in the chassis. Tom
