Topic: Gas Tank Sender

Pulled the tank on my '48 for a reseal. Waited till the fuel level was down to an 1/8 on the gauge so I wouldn't have much to drain. To my surprise I drained 7 Gal. out. The Bob Drake sender installed by a previous owner had a bend in the float arm that allowed the float to just barely touch bottom with the tank dry. Doesn't the arm come straight in the package and should be installed that way for a more accurate gauge reading?

bo, there are no senders available that will measure top to bottom. The best you can do is to bend the arm to accurately reflect a known quantity in your tank. The usual is to have a two gallon reserve when the gauge reads empty. With a fill up then, the needle will remain on full until you use about four gallons.
