With modern grease, only pack grease into the bearings. Put some grease in the palm of your hand and push the bearing into it, moving it all around until you have it fully packed (the rollers are fully coated). That's all you need. Richard

Placing grease upon any spindle does no good whatsoever. Pack the bearings as others have suggested and place some fresh grease within the brake drum cavity (between the inner & outer bearings.

The only grease that is effective is that worked into the bearings. Any other is not thrown into the bearing. The fiber type grease is pulled into and around the rollers, while non fiber grease, such as synthetic, forms a film that is quickly depleted in non sealed bearings.

An even better way to pack the bearing is to put the bearing and the grease into a sandwich bag and then work the grease into the bearing. When finished, throw the bag away. It saves a lot of mess. Jim
