Topic: New carbs on the market

Anyone have experience with the 9super7 available from Speedway? At $299 each they seem like a bargain. Also, anyone seen/tried the new 94s from Edelbrock?

I can't help you with any input on replacement carbs, but unless you are missing a carb, or have one that is damaged, it is a whole lot less expensive to do a rebuild. Be sure that any parts kit contains bushings for the throttle shaft, if needed, in addition to the gaskets, needles, etc. All gasket surfaces should be checked for warping. Place a sheet of fine grit on a piece of flat glass and rub the gasket surface on it until you get a uniform result. When reassembling, don't overtighten the gaskets, particularly on the power valve. This often causes rebuild problems. Old Ford carbs are simple devices, and don't require much experience to rebuild.

Here's an interesting report posted on the FordBarn about them: http://www.garagescene.co.uk/stuff/97.doc

Great article. I wasn't planning on buying one, but interesting just the same. Thanks.

I bought 3 9 super 7's.I had two of them on a model "a" with a Reilly two port head. The acceleration was real poor. I then tried a 81 and a super 97. The acceleration was great but I lost about 5 miles an hour at full throttle. The idle would change all of the time. too high too slow. Now I kind of understand why.

Now what do I do?

Thanks for the post about the test.

I thought I would try to down load an image. This is a picture of the engine with two 81's.
