i have a 36 cabriolet window regulator that the double spring has broke. can i safely take a double spring off a differnt regulator and use it on this one thanks tom

Tom: The regulator springs are the same from 28-48. Look for part number A-48105/6 in the C&G catalog, $5.50 each. Note that the springs are not identical, but are ordered for the appropriate side. The catalog is at www.cgfordparts.com

the spring listed isn't for a convertable which i have- the one i have looks like 2 springs connected together

I understand. Open car regulators are often different from the closed cars. I spent months looking for one for my '47 convert. There is a place called "Regulator Roy" who advertises in the V8 TIMES. His phone is 856/478-2627. Perhaps they can help. When I did find a regulator, I spent lots of time rebuilding the teeth on the thing, anyway.

can you post a picture, I have a box of odd springs from a ford dealer, not sure I would have it but it is worth a look

If you have the Automotive Hardware & Trimming Supplies 1928 - 1938 Ford Book see pages 85, 86 and 87 there are several regulators that have that double spring, I think the 1935 1936 Ford four door sedan rear door regulator would be the most common to find and the least expensive to purchase if you can not find the spring alone, the part numbers are RH 48-734300 & LH 48-734301.

is their any trick on taking the spring off of one regulator and putting it on another as i bought the rear regulator suggested thanks tom

not many guys tackle this but since the regulator is hard to locate and $$$$, go ahead and try it yourself. Looks like you have the correct replacement. Just try to remove as much tension from the spring as possible before removing and reinstalling the replacement. since the donor will be trash, don't be afraid of cutting so that all tension can be removed prior to removal, this will give you an idea as to the installation tension needed. The purpose of the spring(s) is to provide some counter balance to the weight of the glass, and frame,if any. If you turn the handle shaft until the arms are in the full "up" position, most of the spring tension will be released.
