Topic: '37 V8-60 loweer radiator hoses

Tim_Bowers    -- 11-29-2010 @ 8:53 AM
I tried to use the search forum so as to not ask a question that's already been answered, and came up empty.

Does anybody have a known radiator hose that works for the lower hoses on the v8-60?

I'm familiar with standing in the radiator hose section of my parts store and looking for a hose that I can cut down; just wondered if somebody else had already done the homework.

Thanks,

You have the right idea. That's what I did in 1982, when my 1937 Ford 60 hp needed hoses. Sorry, but the memory of the hose numbers and the car are long gone.
I do remember that they were GM though.

  Are the hoses straight..and 1 1/4 inch,
I think old CHEVYS, used that size, try a CHEVROLET VENDER, look in HEMMINGS,
hope this helps 37RAGTOPMAN an KEEP on FORDIN,,,,
ASLO NAPA used to stock 3 ft long hoses in various sizes, for tractors and farm equipment. plus trucks, etc,

The hoses are 1 1/4 inch i.d. and need a 90 degree to attach to engine. I was lucky to find a couple to cut to proper length from a selection of industrial machinery hoses like tow motor ones. I hated that 60 h.p engine that was in my 37 coupe.

Somewhere previously someone had provided a hose number that worked well for the top hoses, and we noticed that they will cut down and work perfectly for the lower hose, too. I'll have to check while we're at the shop to be able to mention the part #, however.

Was it something other than the lack of power that was so bad about the 60?

The green bible lists the hose as part number 74-8286-A for the 1937 passenger 60 hp and states: "Used with offset connections on cylinder block - 1 1/2" I.D. X 7.9" long."

The other hose listed for 1937 60 hp is part number 74-8286-B stating: "Use with straight connections on cylinder block-moulded."

If you wanted to buy the upper hose and cut it down its part number is 74-8260 but it doesn't seem to be available any more than the lower one for the 60 hp.

Perhaps that information is helpful.

Somewhere on a previous post someone suggested gates 21202 as a modern hose that could be used for the upper radiator, and after taking a second look, they will work for the bottom also with a little more trimming.
