This block has an "M" cast into it near the passenger side water pump. Being new to this hobby and not at all surprised anymore of the many different parts and pieces my 1937 pickup has aquired over the last 73+ years, I would guess the "M" stands for Mercury.

to check if it is a true MERCURY ENGINE,
turn the engine over till the piston is at the top,
now turn over the engine till the piston bottoms out,
now measure the distance it traveled,
if 4 inchs it is a MERCURY,or at least has a MERCURY CRANKSHAFT in it,the MERCURY ENGINE has 255 cubic inches verus the FORDS, 239,.
hope this helps 37RAGTOPMAN and KEEP on FORDIN,,,!!!
