Topic: Help Identify this Water Pump

SDExpoman    -- 11-27-2010 @ 7:54 AM
I was going to swap out my old pumps and discovered the replacements for my early '50s 8BA are not a match. Even with using the new style motor mount it will not align, and the bolt is too short. I read that Skip Haney rebuilds old pumps. What type do I have? When viewing the picture, it is the pump on the left.

Thanks,

Bob

Most 8BA engine swaps into an early chassis use the 8RT or truck pumps, similar to the one on the right in your photo. To use the one on the left, you must fabricate motor mounts to raise the engine to proper operating height.

  Well,

I discovered today that the old water pumps are '53 Mercury with the oiler fittings on top. I was informed that these unobtaininum pumps are not available in the aftermarket. Although they turn freely and are not rusted out I have decided to go with the new 8RT units. I actually managed to install the new 8RT's today with some much appreciated insight from C&G's employee Kyle.

37RAGTOPMAN,
The pumps were in my '37 pickup with a 51-53 8BA
