  After almost being rear ended by a cell phone driver I need to increase my rear stopping visibility on my 52 customline with 6 volt pos ground lighting. Does anyone sell a light that can be hidden or removed during shows? Perhaps mounted on the package tray or clamped to the leading edge of the deck lid?

  Go to www.brakeflasher.com They sell an LED super bright flasher bar that will work on 6 volts. It comes with a quick disconnect plug and suction cup mount to use with the inside of a rear window. I have a convertible, so I mounted it atop the rear license plate, running the wire into the trunk by drilling thru one of the license plate bracket bolts. It is a great addition to an old car and a positive safety feature, as old cars usually have small stop lights that are all but invisible, particularly in bright lights.

  I've had mine for a couple of years. It blinks for about 5 seconds, then goes solid red. That said, it didn't protect me a couple of summers ago when a clown in a pickup rear ended my '47, causing about $2,700 in damage. The guy said he didn't see any stoplights. The trooper asked to see mine. Case closed. The guy got a ticket for failing to stop in the assured clear distance. I'm sure that if I didn't have the LED bar, it would have been much worse, because he said he saw me at the last minute as he came around a corner. I'm glad I didn't have a gun!

  I have installed a 40's vintage traffic light in my rear window that has green for go, yellow for idle and obviously red for stop. It works great.

  I've been stopped too many times because the cop thought my rear lights were out when they were just dim. Then I ran across these quartz-halogen bulbs to put in the same sockets, 6 volts (available in 12 volt too.) Now my tail lights are brighter than my brake lights used to be and my brake lights - well, I had to run larger wire just to light them up. They're 55 watts a piece! Just another alternative or addition to the third brake light. Here are those quartz-halogen bulbs if you're interested:

  Halogen bulbs, as noted, require high current. That is why the LED type is preferred, as most original wiring just isn't sufficient to handle the current required by the halogen bulbs. When I installed halogen headlights in my '47, they were not as bright as the old sealed beams, so I built a relay board to feed them directly from the battery with a #10 wire. Now, they receive the 20 amps each requires, and the yellow lights are gone. The original wiring to the switch and dimmer, plus the bullet connectors lost most of the power required, even for the old lights, with 6 volts.

I added one to my '35 std fordor sedan because it only has one tail light on left side. It made a big difference in lighting up the back of my car when the brakes are applied. It will also function as a turn signal light. I can temporarily put this light bar behind the rear seat, in the trunk area, when car is on the show field.

  One of the things I really like about the halogen bulbs in my tail lights is that I can run my blue dot lenses again. I think most of the times the cops thought my lights were out it was because the blue dots blocked more light than the standard lenses. So, I took them off. Now I've got plenty of light to use those and they really look neat, just like I always thought they should but never did with the stock bulbs.

Not only do I like the BRAKE Light, but the turn signal
indicator is great. I put a 6 volt digital light in the cigar ligher of my 34 for my visual reminder then had to get a Radio Shack 6 volt buzzer to make it audible. (It's so Florida to drive along with a turn signal flashing, I needed a reminder to turn it off)
The unit is NOT self cancelling.
