Topic: Valves Stuck Open

What is the best way to free up flathead V-8 valves that are stuck open? I have been soaking the valves on a V8-60 with WD-40 for several days with no luck so far.

Where more than one valve is involved, you will have to open the valve chamber by removing the intake manifold to determine what has happened. Almost always, the valves have to come out due to rust or carbon deposits, if stored for a long time, or to replace broken or weak springs. Soaking them with penetrating oil seldom does the job. If you find rust or lots of sludge, it is certain that the lower end of the engine is affected, too, and will have to be disassembled.
