Topic: shocking a 1940

I purchased a 40 coupe that needed front shocks. I purchased (new shocks) from MAC. I have installed the shocks and now I need to buy either 3" or 4" dog bone links. How do I get the shock arms down from 5" to between the mounting holes to within 3 -4". I have tried using a big pipe wrench to move the arm with no luck.

wanted to know, if the front end is on jack stands, or hanging, with jack stands under the frame,
if it is on jack stands under the axle is will be shorter,
but then again, maybe the person that rebuilds the shocks, pressed the arms on in the wrong position,???
this is just a thought,
my 3 cents worth 37RAGTOPMAN an KEEP on FORDIN,,,,!!!

You should be able to move the shock arms by hand from one limit of travel to the other. If you cannot do this, return the shocks to the vendor.

Your shock arms should have the number 10 cast in them and you need 3"links for the front.

was wondering if you are a EARLY FORD MEMBER,
cause there are many people selling parts in THE V8 TIMES. they are very helpful with their knowledge,
it might be worth becoming a member if you are not already one, the advertisers , and memembership dues are what help pay to run the club and help to run this web site, were a lot of people work for free,
you might save money in the long run,by using the advertisers in the V8 TIMES.most are very helpfull in being they went down the road before,
just my 3 cents worth,37RAGTOPMAN
