Topic: Remanufactured V8 85 hp engine for 1939 Ford

Scranton1000    -- 11-14-2010 @ 5:39 AM
Am looking for information on who rebuilds old Ford V8 engines. I have a 1939 4 door Sedan that will probably need a remanufactured or reconditioned engine. Who does this work? Is there a ready supply of already rebuilt 85 hp V8s available? Thanks for the help. I am a new member and am probably overlooking some obvious answers to this question.

Your question is a very worthy one indeed!
When choosing a rebuilder it is imperative that he has a lot of experience with these old flathead engines. Too many shops these days have little or no experience and simply will not do the quailty rebuild you'd expect / need.
Be certain to quiz whomever you are considering - perhaps get a few references of flatty's he's done in the past - call them! I'm willing to bet someone in the Club near you can recommend a shop.

Let us know where you live. We may be able to refer you to a competent shop. We can also refer you to other V-8ers in your area who may be able to give you some references to rebuilders.

If you are a V-8 Club member you can use your roster to call V-8ers who are near you. There's many members in New York. Calling people in your area will most likely produce some good information regarding a good machine shop that can rebuild a flathead.

I remember going to Montgomery Wards with my dad to buy tires. They always had rebuilt flat heads engines displayed on the floor. I always remember this part of the store had a good smell. This was probably 55 years ago. It is funny what a person remembers.
