Has anyone painted there mufflers and tail pipes with a high heat paint and how did it hold up? Thanks.

A quality high-heat product such as Sperex "VHT" will hold up quite well IF you prep the parts by thoroughly de-greasing them. I'm not sure why you would paint the outside of an exhaust system though, as the most corrosive action takes place inside. For every gallon of fuel burned, approx. 1 gallon of water laced with acid is produced. This is why short trips are so hard on exhaust systems, as there isn't sufficient heat produced throughout the system to dry out the acid/water. A good grade of high heat paint will actually survive thin metal exhaust headers.

I powder finish my exhaust systems and they hold up quite well - the exhaust manifolds not withstanding.

I used a paint made for BBQ grills on my 40 exhaust system, been on there for 20 years. Most is still on the cast iron exh manifolds too!!

We have our exhaust systems made up with stainless steel tubing. It is pricey, for sure, but in lightly used vehicles, it looks new and lasts almost forever. I don't think that anyone makes a SS muffler, but a small "weep hole" at each end will extend its life. I assume that anyone who paints their exhaust system probably doesn't drive it much, as even the "high temp" paints usually don't hold their appearance very long.
