Can anyone recommend a good history of the Ford Motor Company from inception past WWII?

Thanks,
Chris

Chris: There have been many books devoted to the history of Ford Motor Co and the biography of it's founder-possibly a couple dozen. Some were total shams-written at a time when H.F. was in the spotlight and published purely as an effort to exploit that fame for the benefit of the authors. Others were barely adequate in terms of research and factual content. The benchmark work consists of a trilogy: Three volumes written in the '50s and '60s by the team of Allan Nevins and Frank Ernest Hill.

The first of the three (Actually authored solely by Nevins) was published in 1954 and titled Ford: The Times, The Man, The Company. It covers the beginning (prior to 1903) through 1915. The second volume, published in 1957, is titled Ford: Expansion and Challenge and takes one through 1933. The last of the three, published in 1962 covers 1933 through 1962 and is titled Ford: Decline and Rebirth. The books are often found on Abebooks.com.

If you would like to preview the Nevins/Hill work (along with almost everything else that was written about H.F. and FoMoCo), you're welcome to come visit my library. (We're nearly neighbors) Call me at 317-259-7688 if interested. Best regards, Dale Fairfax
