What is the purpose of the large round access hole in the rear floor section just above the differential?

I think it is just for clearance for the banjo when hitting a big bump, not for access to anything.

Thanks for your answer Deuce but I would have thought the panel would have been solid with a dome or curve in it if that were the case. What goes in the hole to fill it in? Has anyone got some photos? This message was edited by MSEIDVALVE on 10-16-10 @ 3:40 AM

There is a stamped cover that fits over the hole that looks like a big shallow dog dish. I bet there is a picture of it in the 33-34 book, or at lesst in one of the parts diagrams. Why they made it a separate piece is not clear to me. Maybe it had to do with stamping techniques and the dies. A good question for the 33/34 advisor!
