Topic: 36 gas tank

Someone educate me. What is the purpose of the springs on the bolt fasteners? The tank rests on the frame with webbing under it and when I took off the tank the webbing was stuck to both the tank and the frame, so no movement ever took place. Thanks Bruce

Well, the springs ARE to allow for frame flex without imparting a twist on the tank. My 38
was "stuck" like your 36. Perhaps we're just not driving hard enough to keep things from
sticking. The Elgin Road Race 33's probably didn't "stick" their tanks. Personally, I feel the
set-up was kind of overkill, much like the radiator springs, but then these cars were often subject to some pretty bizarre road conditions when new. Our modern roads just don't twist cars like the originals did.

Hey Stroker, thanks. It makes much more sense now. I never would have thought about the twisting nature of the frame. Better safe than sorry I quess. Bruce
