Was a cream or a pale yellow offered as a color in 1940? Friend looking at a 1940 convertible that he has been told it is original cream yellow color. I have seen pictures of a 40 woody wagon that is yellow but don't know if it is correct either.

no there are none of the 40 Ford original colors that appear yellow or cream yellow.

I'm sure it could have been had in a commercial or fleet vehicle, but not passenger.

Absolutely not... no factory authorized cream - yellow on Fords in 1940, passenger or commercial. Mercury in 1940 did in fact have a 'canary yellow' (I can't recall exact name)color offered but on an extremely limited basis. As I recall, it was a maximum of two cars per qualifying dealership. There was a catalog put out by Ditzler a number of years ago with numerous paint chips in it. I think in the late 1970's. Anyway, MANY guys used this book as a guide to paint their early Fords. Only problem was all of the major errors within the Ditzler catalog. It (the catalog) is still being offered to this day and can be seen on ebay, etc. I only hope anyone desiring to paint their 40 a correct color does not use that book! Hope that helps. The V8 Album (1985) lists "Cigarette Cream" as a Spring color for '40 Mercury.

That's it, cigarette cream. Thank you. I do recall seeing a service bulletin that told of only two of these per qualifying dealer. Very low offering...
