I have the excellent 41-48 club book and it has a formula for the steering wheel paint, but does any one have a Dupont or similar paint code I could use for the light gray ?

Call Tower paint and give them the formula in the club book. They will make a rattle can for you to the light gray formula. Maybe $30 or so. Nice people. Their paint on our 46 wheel stays just like new. John Tower Paint. Oshkosh, Wisconsn, 920-235-6520

I have a NOS steering wheel on my '47, and it is a kind of sickly gray/green shade that doesn't quite match the dash or the window crank escutcheons, all NOS. If I were trying to match those, I'd have a good paint shop test them and make up a paint to match. Steering wheel paint should be a two part type for durability. If you have any cracks in the wheel, they must be undercut and filled with epoxy before refinishing, or the cracks will come back thru the new paint. If you are using the Club's fine 41-48 book, be sure you have the paint formula corrections pages in addition to the book, itself.

Restored the wheel on my 47 super deluxe, using spray cans from Auto Color Library in San Diego. May have a can or two left if you are interested. jmwells@cavmachine.com
