Topic: 1934/35 Locking Hubcap Resto

I'm working on a 1935 tire display for the Foundation and I'd like to put a locking hubcap on the tire. My questions deal with restoration of same as I see one or two on eBay. Must be rare and they are $$$. So my questions are:
1. How hard is it go get a key made? (Usually missing)
2. Can the stainless cover be removed if it is dinged up for resto?
3. What color would the metal band be that goes around the tire and links up with the cap? Black? (of course no one will see the bracket unless they look for it.)
I have the spare tire bracket and the metal piece that goes under and around the tire. This is a work in progress so things are constantly changing but this appears to be the direction I'm headed and would appreciate any info. It should make a nice display. Thanks.

First -- the 1934 is different from the 1935. The hubcaps were different, so the locking hubcap is different.
1) If you have any old locksmith in the area, a key is no problem. They should be able to pick it.
2) Yes -- carefully of course. People like Jack Edison should be able to straighten any damage.
3) You have answered that question yourself.

And they are not like hen's teeth -- hard to find. You would do better using the Wanted Section of this webpage for a donation, or cheaper sale. E-Bay equals Big Bucks -- nothing is every given away in a bidding auction.

I have a complete 35 locking cap which is disassembled ready to be polished and assembled. There is no Key but a locksmith would be able to make one. I need a 35 intake valve assembly (valve, guides, spring and keepers) and a 0.040 flat top piston. I would be willing to make a trade if they are good usable parts. keiththog@columbus.rr.com
