Can anyone provide information, or direct me to a source, for how to remove and replace an Ignition key lock cylinder in the steering column on a 1940 Ford. Thanks for any help.

Below the lock cylinder is a circular shaped pin that is pushed into the side of the cylinder. The pin has to be pulled out and the cylinder can be removed. To pull the pin it has to be drilled and taped to accept a small screw used to pull the pin.

Silly question. Is the lock broken or are you missing the key? I've had locksmiths create "new" keys for both cars and file cabinets.

The lock cylinder is very stiff - have the key but am concerned it might jam so I am considering replacement.

Sometimes you need to "jiggle" the steering wheel to get it to move easily. Also put a drop or two of "Lock-Ease' in the keyway.

lubricate the cylinder and still tight? Lubricate the chrome button on the end of the lock bolt, it goes in and out when locking and unlocking suggest removing the ignition switch on the rear and lubricate through the hole there
