Ran into an issue rebuilding my 1935 Banjo rear end. I swapped in a new 3:54 gear with all new bearing installation kit and when I bolted the torque tube up the torque tube hit the pinion bearing cage and locked up the rear end. Finally have figured out that the original bearing 48-4621 is has smaller cage OD and is thinner than the replacement Timken #27880. The Timken 27880 will work fine with later torque tubes (1937-48) which have slightly larger diameter opening on the pinion end. It seems like all the parts vendors only carry the new Timken bearing number. Beware if you are putting together a 1935/36 rear end with new bearings. I had to source some NOS 48-4621 bearings to make it work. Has anyone ran into this issue?
