Topic: 1951 Ford Custom wiring question

  Hi,

My under dash wiring is in good shape, but a couple of times I just got lucky. When I bought my '51 it was an abandoned restoration. I got lucky much of the body work was done and done well. but the engine and electrical system was a mess. I have had a great time getting things working and I'm really happy with my progress. When I got my brake lights working it was really kind of a poke and hope situation, same with my rear turn signals. This is probably pretty simple to most of you guys, but the wiring on the FTD-14448-A and B blocks has me a little confused. It looks like most of the ports on the block are connected in pairs, like 1 and 2 on one side are connected, 3 and 4 etc. it looks like 7 and 8 are not connected. I'm thinking maybe these were higher amp circuits like the blower motor?

I have the gray shop manual and I've gone over that a lot. I bought the wiring book from Dennis Carpenter and that is helpful too, but does anyone know of a clear wiring diagram for the turn signals, running lights, stop lights? I even seem to have a blue green wire that should feed the light for the temperature/defrost control that has nothing to plug into. From what I've read in '51 the turn signals were still a dealer installed option, maybe that's why a clear diagram is so hard to find?

If anyone has anything to offer i'd really appreciate it.

Thank you,

Bill

The junction block is just for exterior lights. It is shown in the lower left corner of the wiring diagram just above the head light. You can use the 50-51 Mercury wiring diagram to see where the different color wires go for the turn signals. I believe that the top of the diagram is for the right side of the car.

All instrument panel lights are fed with a blue wire with red tracer. The 51 Ford wiring diagram on Van Pelts site has an error in that the parking lights on the left side of the diagram are labeled as tail lights. and the wire going to the left turn signal bulb should be green with white. There may be other errors on that diagram, but those are the most glaring.
