If you need to replace the crank pulley seal on a 1937 engine, you will have to remove the oil pan and timing gear cover. The oil pan is much easier to remove if you remove the engine from the car and the seals are easier to install with the engine out of the car. I replaced the seal on 2 different cars with the engine in the car when I was in my 50's and it was a chore that I did not enjoy. The seal that I replaced on a 40 Mercury worked, the one that I replaced on a Ford had rear main leaks and I had to pull the engine anyhow to fix that. To remove the oil pan you must remove the drag link and maybe the tie rod, jack up the engine about 3" in front, and lower the radius rod and brace it so you have clearance to drop the pan. Tom
