Topic: '47-'48 Ford Headlight Switch Knob

Hi folks. I just joined this group and have a simple question that may have been answered before but I can't find the answer if it has. I just got a new knob hooked to the shaft to replace my old one on the headlight switch on my '47 Ford but I can't see how to get the old knob and shaft off of the switch, if that can be done without removing the switch, or even how to remove the switch if that's what it takes. Can anyone enlighten me? The picture is what I'm trying to replace.

I found the answer to my question in an old repair manual. Here is the answer for anyone else that might be interested in it: With the knob pushed all the way in, feel the top of the switch for a hole in which to insert a small thin screwdriver and twist it to compress the spring. Then, while depressing the spring, turn the knob and its shaft 1/4 turn to the left and pull the knob and shaft out. Replacement is simply pushing the knob and shaft into the switch while turned 1/4 turn to the left, then, while pushing it in to its limit, turning it 1/4 turn to the right to secure the shaft in the switch.

With the knob and shaft off, the switch is easily removed by unscr*w*ng the bezel that holds it in place and removing it. I've attached the diagram of the switch.

Still old, like many of us, the student now becomes the instructor. Welcome to the EFV8CA Forum. We'd also like to welcome you to the V8 Club and to one of our Regional Groups in your area. I'm not rushing you, am I?
