Topic: Hole in dash of 1935 Fordor Sedan

Howie1935    -- 10-14-2024 @ 10:53 AM
Engine was running fine and then just stopped. Turned out to be a poor connection at ignition switch on column. That's fixed. Looking at the schematic from Ford/Mercury Service Manual, I see a switch for dashboard lights. However, I can't seem to find a switch for same. Does anyone have an image or location for such switch?

I've attached an image of my dashboard and the top left control position is empty....maybe that's the place?

Any help is greatly appreciated.
Dennis

Dennis, my answer here was apparently not correct.
My apologies, yet another example of speaking out of my league on things I have only opinion rather than solid fact.

  Current knobs:
Top right, lighter
Bottom right, choke
Bottom left, "throttle"
Top left, empty.

NO switch (toggle) on dash and no holes where one was or one was mounted.
I'm sort of thinking the dash lights should run from headlights power. When lights on then gauges get lit too.
Just like modern cars...can anyone confirm?

The toggle switch is in the bottom edge of the dash. So, run your hand along the bottom edge from the middle to the steering column.
If it is not there, get down and look as there should be a hole with 2 very smaller holes (for the screws that hold the toggle switch in place).

Bottom edge of the dash?? I think that Howie1935 is right. That the hole in his picture is for a push-pull switch that controls the dash lights. That's the case in my '36, anyway. And I also thought that pulling the switch out turned the lights on in a '35, while pushing the switch in turns them on in a '36. Never mind that those switches are hard to find.
In my '36, the dash lights are controlled by that switch at the upper left which is in the taillight circuit. Separate from the headlights and running lights.

The dash light switch is at the top LH of the four holes, as you have indicated for 35. The switch operates reverse to the 36-37 dash light switch. They are very hard to find especially in operating condition. Suggest if you find any of the 35-37 switches just change the knob to 35 and live with the operational difference. Photos below are of the 37 switch, which varies from 36 by just the knob.

I have a switch ordered but wrong knob. A friend says he can make one on 3D printer to match OEM.
We'll see.
