on my 1948 2dr sedan I removed the inner and front fender to do some frame work, on the inner fender along the top were staples that held on some sort of material to keep dirt out of engine compartment, anybody know what material that was, maybe use weather stripping ?? Johna

The staples held some frame webbing that was an anti squeak between the frame and the panel.
