I'm stumped on removing a shock link stud from the perch bolt on a 41 ford with limited tools. I did it 35odd years ago but forgot how I did it. i had unlimited resources then, and want to do this cautiously as it would be a nightmare if I snapped the connection on the perch bolt.

You can remove the shock link with a tie rod "pickle fork". However, that will ruin the link.
Or, if you would like to reuse the link, buy or rent a tie rod end remover.

Thanks Mike, the 'pickle fork' i used pulled the link off and left the ball and tapered stud. perhaps a smaller ball joint tool. If I considered heating and hammering, I,m afraid of disasterous results.

I now have a clear mental picture. Rent or buy a tie rod end remover. It'll push that stud out easy enough.

step 1 - remove drum. step 2-remove 4 bolts 4backing plate. Carefully place backing plate between radius rod and frame. Step 3 take long alluminum/brass bar and BFHammer and slam it ! now put in yor new shock links.

I use a tool that I got from my local auto part store, and it works very well. Check with Harbor Freight. Back the nut off until it is flush with the end of the threads, put the tool on, and tighten the jack bolt until it breaks free. The tough ones sometimes need a smack with a hammer on the head of the jack bolt.
