Topic: Air in fuel line

Need some advise before I start tearing into the fuel system on my '33. Just installed an electric fuel pump using clear neoprene fuel lines. When running I note a lot of air in the fuel flow both before and after the pump. No fuel leaks observed. I thought that there should be a solid flow with no air in the fuel line. Faulty pickup or loose connection(s)?

Thoughts?

Loose connections. You may have used spring type hose clamps which in my opinion should be outlawed. Worm drive clamps work well for all applications.

Used worm clamps on all connections. No gas leaking at connections I made when installing pump. I'll recheck. Thinking leak may be at the tank pickup or connection.

Question - should there be any air in gas flow? I don't think so but ????.

There should never be any bubbles in the line. There won't be any fuel leaks in any case, as the system is negative pressure, not positive pressure. Even worm drive clamps can suck air if not tightened well. A hint on all such connections... The rubber hose can be stiff, meaning a sloppy fit, so heating the hose first can help, and returning the next day to retighten the clamp is also good practice. Your idea about the pickup is also possible, as they can develop rust pit holes above the fuel level. AOne easy method for checking that possibility is to fill the tank full.
