Topic: Overdrive Governer test

My memory is letting me down;I'm 87 now, and will be 88 in march 2025.

I used to know how to check the governor to see if it was good.

My memory says; take it off the transmission, hook the shaft on it to my electric drill, rev the drill up,and if it's good I will hear a click when it engages.

What did I leave out or state ,wrong??

Regards, Steve Lee

That sounds about right. Once the governor senses a road speed of about 28 MPH the points in the governor will close allowing current to flow to the overdrive relay.

One has to take it off of the transmission,; hook it up to the cars battery with a test light; the light will be on;(points are closed)Spin it with a drill, light goes out ; if the unit is good. (points have opened)
