Other than non-ethanol gas, should I use a lead additive in my fuel?

As long as your Flathead engine has hardened valve seat inserts, you do not need to add any lead additives to your fuel. The engine should run well on regular unleaded pump gas with 10% or less ethanol. If it has the stock compression ratio, 87 Octane fuel should be sufficient.

I agree with Carcrazy 100%. I have many of these cars and all run quite well with the ethanol based fuels.

Hardened valve seats were in all flatheads except during the Korean war era. They were installed in rebuilt flatheads, which accounts for 99.9% of all flatheads. No lead additive needed unless you have a lumpy cam.
