HI I am new in the Forum and soon to become a member in Canada. I am searching for the correct book that would have the entire information of each makes and model of Ford car that would have woodgrain dash as well as trim.The information needed is the style of woodgrain that was used as well as the base color. Is there such an info pack I can acquire. Thank You

The "Polyprints" V-25 "Refurbishing Manual for Early Ford Cars 1937-1948" lists the dash and trim types, including paint formulas by PPG. C&G sells it for $28 a copy. It has color chips for those years, as well. 800/266-0470 If you only need it for a specific year in those mentioned, we can post that for you.

I don't know of any book that would provide the information that you are looking for. The book that Supereal advocated is not very complete in the area of interior colors and does not give the base color used for the wood grain. The best source for the base color is the back of the trim pieces or dash board. These were painted the base color and the wood grain was applied on the front only. Tom

fauldray, your question sounds like you are about to offer your services as a professional woodgrainer, and need the correct info for all who may apply? My suggestion is to attend a National Meet and photograph the cars in attendance there. There will be representative cars of every year and make in attendance. Use a known color reference chip in each photo for color adjustment in the photo later. fauldray, once you join the V-8 Club you will have access to our club advisors. Our paint advisor is Lauren Matley who is also a woodgrainer by trade. You can contact Lauren and ask him for the woodgrain style for any specific year.He's an accomplished craftsman and will share his knowledge with you.

My book begins at '37, so can't help you with the '36. The '39 page says, for the "deluxe", the color is "Golden Birch" grain. The standard models get the "Antique Mahogany" grain. In the case of the wood grained dash and window trim, no formulas are included, as is the recipe for the one color types. I certainly agree with Tom that Lauren Matley should be consulted regarding wood graining. After spending much of one winter learning how to do it, then repeating the process over and over to get an acceptable result, next time I'd farm out the job. The folks over at Grain-it Technologies in Winter Haven, Florida (Tel. 863-299-44940) can help you with your woodgraining questions. They are probably the most knowledgeable people around in regards to automobile woodgraining. Over the years they have developed a superb woodgraining system that utilizes the techniques used originally by the car manufacturers of the 1920's through 1950's. Grain-it manufactures and sells the complete system; photographic woodgraining plates,transfer rollers, basecoat colors,graining ink compounds,etc. Their website is www.woodgraining.com.
